Midtown Optometry provides infant vision treatment in San Joaquin County, CA. Infants are not born with perfect vision. Vision develops as your little one grows. However, if your child’s vision does not develop properly, it can lead to behavioral problems and interfere with overall development. We offer infant vision development and infant vision screening services at our state-of-the-art facility.
Our Doctor of Optometry, Dr. Leanne Lee, is part of a nationwide program sponsored by the American Optometric Association and Johnson & Johnson, which provides no-cost vision assessments for infants between six and 12 months. If your infant has not yet had an infant vision test, please call our office and ask for the InfantSEE® Assessment.
What Is The InfantSEE® Assessment?
The InfantSEE® Assessment is a program managed Optometry Cares. The American Optometric Association program designed to ensure that vision care is incorporated into infant wellness care is called the AOA Foundation. This public health program helps improve children’s quality of life by early detection of potential vision problems. Through this public health program, participating optometrists provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment to infants between six and 12 months of age, regardless of family income or access to insurance coverage. This infant eye assessment is the InfantSEE® Assessment, a one-time, no-cost eye and vision assessment offered as a public service.
Your Baby's First Eye Exam
Regardless of if vision problems are present, a baby’s first eye exam should be around the six-month mark. At about six months of age, a baby should be taken to an optometrist for their first eye examination. During this examination, your optometrist will test for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, eye movement ability, eye alignment, overall eye health, and more. While eye health problems are not common in infants, early detection and treatment are critical. If visual problems are left unattended to at this young age, they can negatively affect a child’s learning ability.
